Patrick Fay has over thirty years of experience in all areas of intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on patent and trademark prosecution, counseling, litigation and licensing.

Mr. Fay has extensive experience in all areas of patent prosecution, both U.S. and foreign, relating to mechanical, automotive and aeronautical technologies, with a special emphasis on medical devices and systems. Mr. Fay’s experience with medical devices and systems has involved a wide range of endoscopic applications, microsurgical devices and catheter-based technologies, as well as orthopedic devices and systems for diagnosing and treating pathologies of the brain. In addition to the drafting of original applications, he has conducted all stages of reissue and reexamination - both ex parte and inter partes.

He also counsels patent owners on the scope and validity of their intellectual properties and gives guidance to clients introducing new products and services as to the probable impact of the patent rights of others. In addition, Mr. Fay has extensive experience in evaluating the intellectual property portfolios of acquisition targets and assists organizations in establishing or improving systems for protecting their intellectual property. Mr. Fay's clients include U.S. and foreign technology companies, manufacturers of medical devices and medical schools, and manufacturers of optical products and of glass for computer and television screens.

Mr. Fay has published numerous articles on various aspects of patent law and formerly served as an editor of the journal Patent Strategy and Management.

He lives in Manhattan with his wife and two daughters.
